Ohana
Design
One of the main problems that characterizes our planet is the pollution of the sea. About 40% of Italian beaches are polluted and 80% of this waste is plastic. “Ohana” comes from the desire to contribute to the preservation of the marine environment. This project combines my passion, surfing, to love for a natural material, wood. It is a surfboard made of wood and plastic recycled by Italian seas. Innovative value is its eco-sustainability, compared to the vast majority of products on the market, made of polyurethane, a material that is difficult to dispose of. The table is covered in ayous wood and the internal skeleton is made of poplar plywood, to make it lighter and more manoeuvrable. I worked a lot on the shape of the board, which results to have a great stability and fluidity. It is suitable for different sea conditions and allows a variety of maneuvers. The shape is that of a shortboard, suitable for different types of wave, the fins are three, to allow the surfer to ride even larger waves and have more grip. This project allowed me to create a surfboard with the aim of respecting the environment.
