PRAYER
Home Textiles
The sick sea, overheating and plastic suffocate the waters; the human footprint is so heavy and painful on Earth that each of us is called to have a light, delicate and responsible step. And so my “Prayer” is born, a jar that symbolically contains the hope of a respectful collective awakening to life, that requires care, attention, dedication, love to continue to be life. The jar is the ocean. It is covered by a broken network, abundant presence in the seas all over the world. To remember a coral reef bleached by overheating, there are hundreds of small white stones that represent as many ex-votos for the salvation of the ocean. Even smaller colored stones creep into the process: they are the microplastics that attack the seabed. The net hides the words of a prayer: at the base we see “Father”, while invisible from the outside the jar, “lead us not into temptation”. I appeal to God asking not to induce humanity in the temptation to dominate the Creation instead of preserving it. All processing is done with crochet, weaving yarn recycled from plastic and recyclable, ancient technique that recalls patient gestures. The meanings enclosed in this object find their strength if its realization becomes the work of many people that, each covering their own stone, express their most intimate prayer for life. For this reason I decided to make a series of it by starting a collaboration with a women’s prison starting in September 2019.
