PASTA SHOOTAH
Industrial Design
Italy stands for pasta, and pasta stands for Italy. Gianmaria Della Ratta translated the industrial pasta production process into the digital world of 3D printing. In this way he wants to give entrenched traditions a push in the direction of change and innovation. Della Ratta uses 3D printed PLA (Poly Lactic Acid), a thermoplast that has been extruded from the starch of plants, such as corn, cassava, sugar cane, grain or sugar beet. Because PLA is derived from biological sources, it is biodegradable. PLA therefore has a much smaller environmental impact than thermoplastics from fossil fuels. Furthermore, as he uses additive manufacturing processes his production is almost zero waste, involving also the 3D printing supports in the final result of his objects.
