re-Food Market
Re-Food Market, situated in the Sala Cenacolo, is an installation sponsored by Esselunga that aims to present the ideal supermarket with exclusively sustainable products and brands that also fight against food waste. Connected to the circular economy, the project is curated by professor Livia Pomodoro, holder of the first UNESCO chair in Italy dedicated to the right and access to food at the University of Milan, and was established to enhance and disseminate the best practices within the supermarket. In addition to better understanding the production and distribution processes of products like milk and organic eggs, or to appreciate new generation packaging studied to limit environmental impact, we find that Esselunga’s yellow baskets are made from recycled plastic. What’s more, the Co2 generated by their production is compensated for through a conservation project in the Amazon forest, along with other initiatives redistributing food that isn’t sold to charities like the Food Bank.
