Co.ffee Era
Emotion on Communication
The Co.ffee Era Project originates from the will of the Krill Design Team to propose asolution to the problematic waste of organic resources, often considered “scraps”.Since every day, in Italy, we consume more than 9 million coffees, the aim of theproject is to recycle and repurpose used coffee grounds. The Co.ffee Era Project focuses on three main areas of Milan, Bovisa Dergano andVillapizzone, de-centered neighborhoods on which the project aims to have both asustainability and social impact.Co.ffee Era speaks indeed to the neighborhoods’ collectivity, showing the value loopthat scraps can take, instead of being disposed of as waste. This allows people livingin said neighborhoods to experience sustainability and circular economy assomething useful and beautiful. A wide-ranging idea of sustainability, in which micro-economies and win-win situationsflourish, so to transform the neighborhood in a global habitat. The main actors of this project are:- The Krill Design team, who collects and transforms used coffee grounds, creates from them a new biopolymer and brings to life, thanks to 3D printers,eco-design objects. – Bars and restaurants from the neighborhoods, that become suppliers of theraw material (coffee grounds)- Any shop, store, bar or restaurants that would like to transform in a temporaryshop, where eco-design coffee products can be sold. This not only closes the virtuousloop of the coffee grounds, letting them come back in the neighborhood where theygot created, but helps to structure a network of sustainable micro-economies.Nonetheless, each shop that sells the Co.ffee Era products will have an economicalgain, keeping 20% of gross margins. In the past months, the “Sustainability District” created by the Co.ffee Era Project sawa significant growth, counting about 30 shops, having recycled more that 100 kg ofcoffee and sold almost 600 eco-design products.
