JUNK NOT x ATELIERS ARTEA
Urban and Public Furniture Design
JUNKNOT in Collaboration with ATELIERS ARTEA QATAR turns plastic waste into furniture while providing livelihood to the community at the same time the community becomes responsible in their own environment. We are paying the community in turning the plastic waste they collected into ropes, which we taught them how to make. Then another 5% proceed of my chairs will go back to the community. Coming from the same home country the Philippines, ATELIERS ARTEA QATAR enables JUNKNOT to have a wider reach of clients and supports further commercialization of upcycled materials for hospitality use. ATELIERS ARTEA is a pioneering team in the promotion of social enterprises in the Middle East. Project purpose: JUNKNOT is a social enterprise focusing on upcycling plastic wastes into furniture pieces and table accessories. Junk Not is an interior design company that specializes in finding creative ways to transform everyday trash and other indigenous materials into functional items. It engages a community of women to be responsible stewards of the environment. Its partner community in Alas-as, San Nicolas, Batangas, Philippines was trained to segregate and clean household wastes. These plastic wastes are then turned into ropes that are weaved into wooden/metal frames to create beautiful furniture or table accents.
