Platubo Collection Zero Waste
Urban and Public Furniture Design
When the color of the plastic needs to be changed during plastic extrusion, any plastic extruded during the color transition phase is considered wastes. A plastic-coated metal pipe supplier had been producing such industrial PVC waste 50t a year. In the perspective of the factory, mixed color PVC extrusions were nothing more than wastes. In the perspective of 1S1T’s Creative Collective, it was an opportunity for a new design, and a possibility of new sustainable material – Platubo. Platobo is the first attempt of 1S1T Creative Collective’s Zero Waste Project. Platubo is extruded PVCs that are re-shredded and re-fed into the extruder. Utilizing the various equipment of the factory, Platubo is produced as a rigid tube, coated over a metal pipe. However, Platubo can also be extruded to have a mass-like aesthetics as expressed in the seatings and vases in Platubo Collection. Aside from the very unique aesthetics, the most representative strength of Platubo Collection is the amount of PVC waste that it uses up. A single Platubo stool weighs 15kg, which means 50t of PVC wastes can be translated into 3025 stools. In order to meet our 2020 goal of transforming all the 50t of PVC waste into Platubo pipes and furnitures, we need your help.
