Modeling Shiringa
Innovative and Tech Projects
We are Peruvian students of Design Faculty based in Lima and we get the project idea while we were investigating the Awajun community, an indigenous population living in the Peruvian Rainforest. The academic research, focused on materials, communication and technology, gave us the possibility to discover the artisanal process of the ceramic production. The Awajun community lives in complete harmony with their environment and use these objects to represent their respect and connection with nature. Their cosmovision guide them in the everyday life, but throughout history they had been threatened by the natural rubber market (extracted from Shiringa trees)that destroyed part of their environment and used them as low paid workers. With this project we want to speak about all their story, their value and give natural rubber material the opportunity to be produced for a sustainable market. We design a series of object that represent domestics tools from our everyday life. They are made with natural rubber, shaped thanks to 3d printed cast with organic forms inspired by the Amazonian rainforest.
